Outreach to fathers blossoms at Callejo
0Michael Starling thought he would struggle to get more fathers involved at Adelfa Callejo Elementary School. After just one meeting, he was surprised to learn how wrong he was. In September, Starling, a Callejo and the Callejo Elementary team launched a chapter of Watch D.O.G.S., an effort started by the National Center for Fathering best described as “a one-of-a-kind, school-based father involvement program that works to support education and safety.” The goal was to attract more fathers and male role models to mentor students and provide a visible presence in the lives of students while on campus. Tim Brown Day celebrates standout Dallas ISD graduate, football star
0Officials from the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Ford Motor Company, City of Dallas and Dallas ISD helped celebrate Tim Brown Day on Friday, Nov. 6, with three events throughout the day. Brown won the Heisman Trophy while playing football at Notre Dame University, and went on to have a distinguished career for the Los Angeles Raiders in the NFL. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame earlier this fall. It’s time to sound off on the district’s 2016-2017 calendar
0Members of the public and district employees are invited to provide input on some of the elements of Dallas ISD’s 2016-2017 school calendar. In preparation to present a proposed calendar to members of the board of trustees, district officials have proposed several options for the dates of winter break, bad weather make up days, and early release days. Open house events offer information about Public School Choice options
0Dallas ISD is creating new Transformation Schools that offer specialized academic programming, similar to Magnet Schools. Unlike Magnet Schools, Transformation Schools do not have any academic entry requirements — they are open enrollment for all students across the entire district, regardless of academic ability. Transportation will be provided. Dallas ISD employees, parents and the community at large can get answers to these questions and take a close-up look at Dallas ISD Transformation Schools at a series of open house events.
