ACE schools generate big reading achievement gains for youngest learners

Nearly 800 new collegiate academy students attend two-week summer boot camp
0Nearly 800 students from Dallas ISD’s seven new collegiate academies and Pathways to Technology Early College High School (P-TECH) got first-hand college experience at a two-week summer boot camp. The Texas Success Initiative boot camp saw the students visit the respective college campus they will attend as students in Dallas ISD’s new collegiate academies. The collegiate academies and P-TECH will let students, at no cost to them, earn up to 60 hours of college credit or an associate degree while still in high school. Stars On The Rise to provide $2.5 million in scholarships this year
0The Stars On The Rise scholarship fund, the annual scholarship drive of The Greater Dallas Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (GDHCC) and its many partners in the corporate and education sectors, is awarding $2,544,050.81 in scholarships to 296 graduating seniors from North Texas this year. During the last 33 years, the fund has given more than $32.5 million in scholarships to almost 3,800 students. This year’s corporate scholarship donors and/or sponsors include: Ford Motor Company Fund (presenting sponsor and $420,000 donor), Fossil, Texas Instruments, Coca Cola, Oncor and UPS. Dustin Marshall wins trustee runoff election
0Preliminary results show Dustin Marshall won the Dallas ISD Board of Trustees runoff election on Saturday for District 2. Marshall, a businessman, fills the seat vacated by Mike Morath, who was appointed to become the state’s education commissioner. Jaime Resendez (Trustee District 4), Lew Blackburn (Trustee District 5), and Audrey Pinkerton (Trustee District 7) won their races in May for seats on the Dallas ISD Board of Trustees.
