Daniel Poveda and Monica Garcia have dedicated their careers to serving the Dallas ISD community while bringing their rich cultural heritage into the classroom. Originally from Venezuela, the couple’s passion for teaching reflects their deep commitment to uplifting the next generation of students. Poveda has been with Dallas ISD for 16 years, first as a teacher and now working as an instructional specialist for emergent bilingual and immigrant students in the Dual Language ESL Department.  He arrived in the country when he was 14, and remembers the challenges of adapting to a new culture and language. When husband and wife, Pere Valls and Laura Moreno, traveled from Spain to teach in the U.S., they brought global expertise to Chapel Hill Preparatory Academy and embarked on a journey where they would share new cultural experiences with their young children. “The idea is to go to a new country, learn, and bring that knowledge back home. With over 10 languages spoken, the team of 30 translators and interpreters work daily to bridge language barriers for students, parents, and more. Spanish is the most requested language, and other frequently spoken languages include Arabic, Swahili, Burmese, and Pashto.
