Governor invites Dallas ISD teacher to be part of education discussion
0Dallas ISD teacher Eric Hale will share his perspective on education as one of 12 Texas teachers to meet Dec. 13 in Austin with Gov. Greg Abbott and members of an education task force. The roundtable discussion will include the teachers’ thoughts about recruiting and retaining effective teachers, but also cover other topics. Hale, a third-grade math teacher at David G. Burnet Elementary School, himself struggled his first year as an educator, but has since become one of the district’s Top 100 teachers. Proposed 2017-2018 calendar options available for review and feedback
0Parents, students and community members are invited to provide input on several elements of Dallas ISD’s 2017-2018 instructional calendar. Two draft calendars featuring several variable options are available for review, comment and a vote. The options include the dates of winter break, bad weather make up days and teacher professional development on non-school days when students attend the State Fair of Texas. Keeping kids in class at heart of effort to reduce truancies
0In the recent past, Dallas ISD students represented more than half of the truancy court cases filed in Texas. On Tuesday, Nov. 29, Superintendent Michael Hinojosa and County Judge Clay Jenkins presented 24 recommendations to change the system to take many of those cases out of the courtroom. House Bill 2398, passed by the Texas Legislature in 2015, required entities to work toward decriminalizing truancy by making chronic school absenteeism a civil issue. District releases first-ever enrollment guide
0Dallas ISD is proud to release its first-ever enrollment guide, which provides comprehensive information on all 228 schools in the district. From the school effectiveness index and state accountability rating to the academic programs and extracurricular activities, the enrollment guide provides a one-stop shop for information on every Dallas ISD school. The district will hand out the enrollment guides at the Discover Dallas ISD Fair, which is set for Dec. 3 at Ellis Davis Field House.
