0Dallas ISD officials announced the winners of the 2019-2020 Principal of the Year award during a special ceremony at the Dallas Arboretum. The winners are: Elementary: Ida Escobedo, principal of Margaret B. Henderson Elementary School Secondary: Francine Taylor, principal of H. Grady Spruce High School Choice: Nancy Bernardino, principal at Solar Preparatory School for Girls at James B. 0A holistic plan under consideration could bring more education choices across the city, especially in underserved areas in Sunny South Dallas. Dallas ISD Chief of School Leadership Stephanie Elizalde briefed trustees on a proposal to turn Martin Luther King Jr. Learning Center into an arts-focused transformation school that would serve as a pipeline into Booker T. Washington and other fantastic district fine arts programs. Under the proposal, students currently attending MLK would be welcome to continue there. 0A new Dallas ISD Montessori school could be coming to Downtown Dallas. The Board of Trustees on Dec. 5 heard details of the proposal to open the Montessori school next school year. With 2,035 applications for 400 seats this year at four schools, Dallas ISD has seen a big demand for its Montessori program.
