To recognize the National School Lunch Program that serves 30 million children each day across the country, Dallas ISD is celebrating National School Lunch Week from Oct. 14-17. The theme, “School Lunch: What’s on Your Playlist,” spotlights how school cafeterias are serving up healthy menu items that kids want to eat, with increased choice and customization. National School Lunch Week (NSLW) is highlighting the nutritious foods available daily at Dallas ISD schools. Now please stand for the pledge of allegiance.” And in announcing those 13 words over the school’s intercom, Chris Nielsen, executive vice president of product support and chief quality officer at Toyota North America, kicked off his service as Principal for the Day. Dallas ISD and the Dallas Regional Chamber again partnered together for the annual event that brought hundreds of business and community leaders from the private sector into Dallas ISD schools. More than 200 volunteers accepted the opportunity to shadow Dallas ISD principals to gain an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at the school district.…

From singing songs during recess to shining bright during talent shows, Principal Romikianta Sneed has seen firsthand the amazing talents of her South Dallas students at Martin Luther King Jr. Learning Center. Sneed is thrilled the campus, starting next school year, will offer an arts emphasis and, pending a name change approval from the board of trustees, become the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Arts Academy. “We have so much talent and creativity in our South Dallas community,” Sneed said. “We know our students will thrive in environments where they are encouraged to express their creativity and realize their dreams.”…
