Mayor Eric Johnson announced that the 24th annual Dallas Mayor’s Back to School Fair will take place Aug. 20 and Aug. 21. The fair has traditionally served as a time-saving, one-stop shop that offers school supplies and a wealth of information and community resources. During the July 23 called board meeting, the Dallas Independent School District’s Board of Trustees approved several changes to the 2020-21 school year calendar. The approved changes to the calendar, which you can see here, are: The first day of school moves from Aug. 17 to Sept. 8. The last day of school moves from May 27, 2021, to June 18, 2021 Previously planned holidays in October are removed due to the cancellation of the State Fair. While addressing the House Committee on Education and Labor today, Superintendent Michael Hinojosa urged federal lawmakers to pass legislation that provides funding to increase access to high-speed internet service for families. Several bills up for consideration in Congress would help increase access to high-speed internet access, which Hinojosa said is necessary not only for students to learn at home, but also for families to access telemedicine and apply for jobs.
