Lianny G. is most looking forward to learning to read and write better and to meeting her new teacher when classes start in Dallas ISD Tuesday, Aug. 12. While history doesn’t follow a set timeline, six students in Dallas ISD’s 18+ transition program are proving that hard work, planning, and dedication are the keys to success. “My future goal is to become an EMT,” Serenity H. said. “I never understood the role of an EMT until Project SEARCH gave me the opportunity to increase my skills by working on two ICU floors. Through storytelling, arts and crafts, games, and literature, students in the American Indian Education program deepened their understanding of their native background this summer at Cultural Camp. “Before attending this camp, I didn’t know much about my tribe,” said Vincent, a rising freshman at Emmett J. Conrad High School. “I just showed up to powwows and danced in my regalia. I learned more about my history because of this experience, and it made me love my tribe more. State law bans personal devices on campus during school day

This year, all public schools in Texas — including those in Dallas ISD — must comply with House Bill 1481, a new state law that prohibits students from using personal communication devices during the school day. This means that students will not be allowed to use or display devices such as cell phones, smartwatches, tablets, AirPods, laptops, or smart glasses at any time during the instructional day.
