Bryan Tovar and Jorge Chairez, students at Lang Middle School, were named Ad Cap Team Innovator Finalists and won a $1,000 grant for their project. Under the supervision of Dee Coyle, CTE Teacher at Lang, Tovar and Chairez attended a conference sponsored by Adventure Capital where they were challenged to think of an idea that would help kids increase their physical activity or help kids eat healthy while incorporating academics. With the support of the Dallas ISD STEM Department, Frederick Douglass Elementary is piloting a computer science initiative for all its students. Computer science instruction is integrated into the regular school day for K-5 students using Code.org curriculum. VEX IQ based robotics instruction is integrated into the regular school day for students in grades 3-5. “Having a computer science program adds so much value to the lives of our students,” said Marquetta Masters, Principal at Frederick Douglass Elementary. Dallas ISD teacher Eric Hale will share his perspective on education as one of 12 Texas teachers to meet Dec. 13 in Austin with Gov. Greg Abbott and members of an education task force. The roundtable discussion will include the teachers’ thoughts about recruiting and retaining effective teachers, but also cover other topics. Hale, a third-grade math teacher at David G. Burnet Elementary School, himself struggled his first year as an educator, but has since become one of the district’s Top 100 teachers. Trustee Audrey Pinkerton will hold a District 7 community meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 6, from 6:30–8:30 p.m. The meeting will be at W.H. Adamson High School, 309 E. Ninth Street. United Way Metropolitan of Dallas y varias empresas se unieron al Dallas ISD para celebrar el programa de ciencias, tecnología, ingeniería y matemáticas, también conocidas como STEM. E.B. Comstock Middle School albergó el increíble evento, que contó con más de 75 voluntarios que organizaron seis diferentes estaciones para despertar la curiosidad de los estudiantes en una variedad de temas relacionados a STEM. Two draft calendars featuring several variable options are available for review, comment and a vote. Jane Chu knows a secret. The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Chairman was officially welcomed into the Raul Quintanilla Sr. Middle School DaVerse Poetry Club with the secret handshake.
