Students at two schools in Dallas ISD will attend different schools next year if their current campuses fail to meet state accountability standards at the end of this school year. In addition, the Dallas ISD Board of Trustees voted Thursday, Jan. 25, to close three campuses. Below is a summary of Board-approved actions. Dallas ISD’s Benjamin Franklin Middle School celebrated the birthday of the inventor and statesman the school is named after on Jan. 17. Franklin, also considered one of the Founding Fathers of the United States, was born on Jan. 17, 1706, in Boston. He died on April 17, 1790, at the age of 84. Dallas ISD is expanding opportunities for its students with the creation of Collegiate Academies inside most of the district’s comprehensive high schools. Academy students may earn up to 60 hours of college credit and an associate’s degree – tuition-free – while also earning their high school diplomas.
