When the 2018-2019 school year kicks off Aug. 20, many Dallas ISD families will notice what’s new this year. This is a continually updated list of what’s new this school year. Career Institutes and Collegiate Academies Dallas ISD will operate career institutes at five high schools this school year. The career institutes will help give students the potential to earn a livable wage immediately after graduating high school. Si su hijo esta inscrito en prekínder a octavo grado, y necesita ayuda para obtener el uniforme, puede comunicarse con el coordinador de uniformes de su escuela. Last week, staff members from Dallas ISD’s ACE schools convened to prepare for the coming school year. ACE stands for Accelerating Campus Excellence and is a strategic staffing initiative that hires proven educators at perpetually struggling schools to boost student achievement and college readiness. The core plan focuses on instructional excellence from teachers and high expectations for students. Aside from school supplies, school uniforms are a primary need for many students going into the new school year. Families of students in preK–eighth grade in need of uniform assistance can contact their campus uniform coordinator for help in obtaining a uniform. Parents requesting uniform assistance must meet income eligibility guidelines and complete the Socioeconomic Information form to determine their eligibility. Both forms are provided by their campus uniform coordinator and returned to that coordinator once they are completed. Qualifying families receive one uniform for each approved student. A new policy on racial equity was adopted this summer in an effort to strengthen the district’s socio-economic and educational parity for its students. The purpose of this policy is to adhere to the Racial, Socio-Economic, Educational Equity Resolution that was adopted by the Dallas ISD Board of Trustees on Dec. 14, 2017. As part of the district’s commitment to providing a welcoming and protective environment for every student, families who are new to the country and enrolling in school for the first time can visit the Margaret and Gilbert Herrera Student Intake Center.
