Dallas ISD and Out Teach, formerly known as REAL School Gardens, celebrated the 40th school garden planted together on Friday, Sept. 28. Thanks to support from Boston Consulting Group and Sprouts, employees and volunteers came together to build the outdoor learning garden at Henry B. Gonzalez Elementary School. As a special surprise, Boston Consulting Group presented a $1,000 check to Gonzalez Elementary Principal Reymundo Cervantes.

Nancy Lieberman, leyenda del baloncesto, continúa apoyando a los estudiantes de Dallas ISD a través de donativos y becas universitarias. Aproximadamente hace dos años, Lieberman visitó Robert T. Hill Middle School para comprometerse a apoyar a la escuela, y no ha olvidado aquella promesa. A principios de este mes, estudiantes de Hill y Bryan Adams High School, se ofrecieron para ayudar en el Nancy Lieberman Charities Celebrity Golf Classic. El torneo reunió a varias celebridades para recaudar dinero para la labor que realiza su organización en todo el país. Los voluntarios recibieron cada uno de ellos un iPad y una mochila por su participación.

El 20 de septiembre, se realizó la Feria de Salud de Eduardo Mata Elementary School donde se trató la salud y el bienestar de los estudiantes, el personal y los padres de la comunidad. El tema de este año fue “¡Súper Héroes, Súper Salud!” En el evento hubo puestos informativos de salud y bienestar, demostraciones de aptitud física, primeros auxilios, información nutricional, entre otras cosas. Los niños disfrutaron de un circuito de obstáculos, aprendieron sobre los gérmenes para mejorar el lavado de manos, participaron en retos de aptitud física y recibieron meriendas saludables. The State Board of Education named Marnie Glaser, a Dallas ISD parent and volunteer, as a recipient of its Heroes for Children Award. The State Board of Education (SBOE) selected one outstanding volunteer from each board district to honor with the award. Whether it was painting a mural herself by the school’s front door or creating an outdoor science courtyard complete with koi pond, flower garden and pergola, Glaser last year worked to make Preston Hollow Elementary School a child-centered environment with a strong literacy culture. Basketball legend Nancy Lieberman has continued to support Dallas ISD students through donations and college scholarships. About two years ago, Lieberman visited Robert T. Hill Middle School to commit her support, and she hasn’t forgotten that promise. Earlier this month, students from Hill and Bryan Adams High School volunteered to support the Nancy Lieberman Charities Celebrity Golf Classic. The tournament brought together several celebrities to raise money for her organization’s work across the country. Volunteers each received an iPad and a backpack for their effort.

Students, staff and parents focused on health at Eduardo Mata Elementary School’s Health and Fitness Fair on Sept. 20. The theme this year was “Super Heroes, Super Health!” The event included health and wellness booths, fitness demos, first aid, nutrition information and more. Children enjoyed an obstacle course, germ lessons for improved hand-washing, fitness challenges and had healthy treats to taste. Learn more about Mata, which is a Montessori campus, here.

The Thomas C. Marsh Preparatory Academy Leadership Cadet Corps presented the colors at a press conference announcing a $5 million donation to expand science education at the Perot Museum of Nature and Science. The district’s headquarters at 9400 North Central Expressway is now officially the Linus D. Wright Dallas ISD School Administration Building. A naming ceremony on Wednesday, Sept. 26, honored Wright’s achievements. Wright was Dallas ISD superintendent from 1978–1987. El 19 de septiembre, se realizó la Feria Universitaria de Dallas ISD donde los estudiantes y padres recibieron información sobre las diferentes oportunidades disponibles para los alumnos después de que se gradúen de la preparatoria. Entre los asistentes hubo más de 1,800 estudiantes de Dallas ISD, cerca de 50 alumnos de fuera de Dallas ISD, y aproximadamente 400 padres y tutores legales.
