As a senior, a late growth spurt along with spectacular play on the gridiron caught the eye of the University of Texas coaching staff. Dallas ISD students helped set a Guinness World Record title for the largest Artificial Intelligence programming lesson hosted by Capital One. The high school students enrolled in Dallas ISD NAF Academies joined students from other school districts and volunteers from Capital One and Major League Hacking on April 17 to learn the fundamentals of Python coding language. Michael Ensley is the chief architect of the Lincoln High School girls basketball dynasty of the late ’90s through the first decade of the new millennium. He led the Lady Tigers to a national championship, three state championships and eight state tournament appearances throughout his 14-year tenure as head coach from 1999-2012. Ensley arrived to Lincoln in 1998 and quickly set the standard future teams would have to live by. He led the Lady Tigers to an undefeated mark of 30-0 in 1999. Sixty-two graduating seniors in Dallas ISD’s Class of 2019 were recognized on Tuesday, April 16, with Superintendent’s Scholarships. Each honoree received $2,500 to go toward costs at the college or university of their choice. Selection for the Superintendent’s Scholarship Program is based on need, character, grades, recommendations and the promise of future success. A group of Sunset High School students have been invited to Washington D.C. next month to showcase an app they created to members of congress and the tech community. In 2018, more than 220 Members of the U.S. House of Representatives held a Congressional App Challenge. The Congressional App Challenge aims to engage students in computer science and spans 47 states and territories. Gary Blair currently serves as the head women’s basketball coach at Texas A&M University, where he has won a national championship, and is the most successful head coach in university history and a member of the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame.
