Shannon Trejo has been named deputy chief of Academics. Previously, Trejo had served as Dallas ISD’s assistant superintendent for Language, Literacy and Social Studies since October 2017. In that role, she led six departments—Dyslexia/504, Reading Language Arts, Social Studies, Dual Language and English Learner Services, World Languages, and Multi-Tiered Systems of Support—and focused on the creation and implementation of a districtwide curriculum. Trejo graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a degree in applied learning and development and a specialization in Spanish. Silvia Salinas was recently named acting executive director of the Athletics Department, the first woman to occupy the position in Dallas ISD. A 27-year educator, Salinas has worked in athletics administration for 16 years. Continuing a long family tradition in education, Salinas earned a degree in exercise and sports science from Southwest Texas State University and a master’s degree in sports administration from Northwestern State University. She earned a doctorate in higher education and athletics administration from the University of North Texas. The 23rd-annual Mayor’s Back To School Fair will provide Dallas parents and children with everything they need for the first day of school. There will be several free services, including health checkups, dental and vision screenings, immunizations and haircuts. A team of 23 high school students with special needs earned a standing ovation for winning a sportsmanship award during a district robotics competition. Karla García was sworn in as a Dallas ISD trustee during Thursday’s board meeting.
