All Dallas ISD school administrators, 222 principals and approximately 430 assistant principals strengthened their leadership skills during a three-day, in-depth training conference. Dallas ISD, in partnership with the educational nonprofit Teaching Trust, organized this seminar to prepare administrators for the 2019-2020 academic year. The campus leaders gathered at Emmett J. Conrad High School on Tuesday for the School Leadership Summer Intensive kickoff. Representatives from Dallas Symphony Orchestra taught music lessons at several Dallas ISD elementary schools during the summer. Students learned the basics about reading a music sheet and interacted with many different instruments, most of them for the very first time. DSO organized the first Youth Concert for Dallas ISD students almost 100 years ago, said Jamie Allen, DSO Director of Education. Dallas ISD has raised family income limits and is offering scholarships to expand the number of 3- and 4-year-olds eligible to attend pre-K at no cost. The Dallas ISD Board of Trustees in June approved the pre-K scholarship program. Two Dallas Police Department officers joined a group of middle school students for a discussion regarding the national conversation on police brutality. Twenty-three students hosted the talk in a classroom at Boude Storey Middle School. Their presentation focused on their concerns over the use of excessive force by police nationwide. Texas state law requires students to be fully vaccinated against specified diseases by the first day of school, which in Dallas ISD is Monday, Aug. 19. That means now is the perfect time to avoid the long lines of the back-to-school rush at clinics and medical facilities across the city.
