Sponsored by the Student Activities department, more than 400 cheerleaders from 21 Dallas ISD high schools participated in the second annual Dallas ISD Summer Cheer Camp at the Sprague Athletic Complex. Every high school cheer program was invited to attend the four-day intensive camp where they learned cheer basics, routines, chants, tumbling, and stunts which culminated to a final cheer camp showcase that was open to family and friends. More than 500 Dallas ISD students have enjoyed the chance-of-a-lifetime to work with Emmy Award-winner Curtis King to hone their passions for theater and art in the spotlight. The Black Academy of Arts and Letters (TBAAL) 34th Annual Summer Arts Institute is hosted in partnership with the Dallas ISD Extended Learning Opportunities Department. Aproximadamente 100 estudiantes de 1º y 2º grado están inscritos en un campamento de inmersión de español para ayudarlos a hablar, escribir y leer en dos idiomas. El campamento les da a los estudiantes inscritos en el programa de lenguaje dual bilateral la oportunidad de practicar el español durante el verano. Twenty-five Dallas ISD NAF academy students visited Capital One on June 20 for a campus tour highlighting seven visual “STEAM stops” to explore how their everyday environment connects to science, technology, engineering, arts and math concepts. About 100 first- and second-grade students are enrolled in a Spanish Immersion Camp helping them become bilingual and biliterate. The camp gives students enrolled in the Two-Way Dual Language program an opportunity to keep practicing their Spanish during the summer break. This is the first year Dallas ISD has organized the camp taking place at two schools. Throughout the day, the teachers solely speak in Spanish. They organize activities that not only teach the students about the language, but also about the different cultures where Spanish is spoken. Beruk Tsuhaye siempre le encantó leer mientras crecía en Uganda, pero nunca tuvo la oportunidad de leer libros nuevos en su país. Ahora, en parte del programa para refugiados de Dallas ISD, Tsuhaye sonrió sonrió mientras abría copias de las novelas de Percy Jackson y I Am Malala. “Este campamento ha sido la experiencia más increíble,” dijo Tsuhaye.
