Dallas ISD will host the district’s annual African American Read-in on Friday, Feb. 26, continuing a decades-long tradition of encouraging young people to read and promoting diversity in literature while spotlighting the work of African American authors. Dallas ISD is looking to recognize its bus drivers for the hard work they do through a new “Brag  On A Bus Driver” initiative. Feb. 22 is National School Bus Driver Appreciation Day, which is a time to recognize those who make sure students safely get to and from school. With the aftermath of the inclement weather still presenting very real challenges for our families and schools, Dallas ISD schools will be closed Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 22 and 23, and there will be no virtual learning. District essential staff are working throughout the weekend to clean up and repair pipes and water damage at the schools. To provide a safe, warm shelter to families, Dallas ISD is opening warming centers at Emmett J. Conrad, 7502 Fair Oaks Ave., and W.W. Samuell, 8928 Palisade Drive, high schools and Lorenzo De Zavala Elementary School, 3214 N Winnetka Ave., from noon to 5 p.m. You are asked to bring your own food.
