Parents of students at Franklin D. Roosevelt and O.W. Holmes Classical Academy are urged to attend a virtual parent meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 25, to discuss plans to relocate Roosevelt students to the Holmes campus to safeguard students and facilitate construction on the Roosevelt campus. Building crews are at work on a $61.7 million renovation at Roosevelt, with the goal of substantially completing the work in time for students to occupy the building next August. T.G. Terry, Adelle Turner and Martin Weiss elementary schools are considering adopting an alternative calendar to help ensure students don’t fall too far behind because of the pandemic. They are among the 42 Dallas ISD schools considering adopting an “intersession” calendar, which would extend the school year to start at the beginning of August and end in late June. Brown is a legend in the Dallas ISD baseball and sports community. Brown was the first full-time Black sportswriter hired by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram who went onto host a sports radio show on KKDA-AM until 2012. The average Dallas ISD teacher salary is now above $63,000–and the district continues retaining its’ most effective educators, even during the pandemic–under the Teacher Excellence Initiative, district officials told trustees during the Feb. 11 briefing. TEI is the district’s effort to define, support and reward teacher excellence. Through TEI, Dallas ISD was one of 26 school districts in Texas that received additional state funding ($28 million) under House Bill 3. The non-profit recognizes the importance of bilingualism and bilingual education across the country to help create global leaders among the next generation.
