Dallas ISD will offer curbside meal pickup through the first four weeks of the 2020–2021 school year. Meal service is set for late afternoons so that parents, guardians, and/or students can conveniently pick up meals after the end of the school day and at a time that many parents may be on their way home from work. As the daughter of a Black father and Irish mother, Jessica Brevard growing up did not see book characters that represented her. Now as a second-grade teacher at Annie Webb Blanton Elementary School, Brevard is committed to sharing diverse literature with her young readers to ensure they feel represented. Recently, several dozen Amazon volunteers from all over Dallas-Fort Worth came together to distribute approximately 4,000 iPads, Chromebooks, and mobile hotspots to students at Seagoville, Mark Twain, George Peabody, Adelfa Botello Callejo, and David G. A newly created position at 10 schools will leverage data, partnerships, trainings and support to ensure all students–and especially Black students–have equitable access to services, representation and a great education at the campus.
