The Dallas ISD Board of Trustees voted last night to join multiple other school districts in an existing lawsuit challenging a ban on mask mandates. With a focus on supporting the schools and students who need it the most, Dallas ISD leaders updated trustees during the Aug. 12 board briefing on how the district is addressing unfinished learning caused by the pandemic. In order to raise awareness on the link between school attendance and academic achievement, Dallas ISD Parent Services is celebrating September Attendance Awareness Month with a variety of ways for students and schools to participate. Vedant Tapiavala, a senior at Dallas ISD’s School for the Talented and Gifted, and three of his friends – including a Plano ISD student – have developed an app to help Alzheimer’s and other dementia patients. The AlzBuddy app is designed to help entertain and engage those living with Alzheimer’s and dementia. The three modules in the app allow a user to select sounds, games or pictures.
