For W.T. White High School B-TECH sophomore Micayla Martin, volunteering in one of her school’s special education classrooms helped her realize her calling of becoming a teacher. Martin, who is enrolled in her school’s education pathway, now has a big head start on achieving her calling after being one of 12 W.T. The Dallas ISD Baseball Academy will be held June 21-24 for Dallas ISD students currently in grades 3 through 6. The event will take place Monday through Thursday from 6-8 p.m. The academy, which will focus on individual skill development and training for our future Dallas ISD baseball champions, will be held six different high schools, including Molina, W.T. White, Skyline, Hillcrest, Madison, and Seagoville as well as at Higgins Field and Pleasant Grove Field. On May 27, Dallas ISD’s Board of Trustees recognized Kamila Vargas, a senior at Thomas Jefferson High School, as the 2021 recipient of the Council of Great City Schools’ Green-Garner Scholarship, based on her high academic performance and strong character. More than 140 Dallas ISD schools were damaged during February’s winter storm due to historic freezing temperatures and flooding caused by broken pipes. Recognizing the financial and program impact of replacing the equipment, Reliant presented a $115,000 donation to the Dallas Education Foundation on May 27, 2021, at E.D. Walker Middle School. This donation will help provide campuses that sustained significant losses to their performing arts departments with new musical instruments, speakers, instrument cases, uniforms, sheet music and more.
