High School Choice Awareness Week will connect current eighth graders with a best fit high school

As part of High School Choice Awareness Week happening Jan. 19–22, all current eighth graders will learn about potential best-fit high schools based on their interests and future career aspirations.

High School Choice Awareness Week builds on the great guidance lessons that counselors have already been doing with students.

The first day of High School Choice Awareness Week will see students complete a Find Your Path assessment, which provides suggested careers and college majors based on their personality, and a Would You Rather survey, which matches a student’s hobbies with possible future careers. On the second day, students will learn about the high schools in Dallas ISD with pathways that match with those career interests. Students will also learn how to apply to, or express interest in, a best-fit high school in Dallas ISD.

“From our P-TECHs where high school students can get an associate degree and Career Institutes where they get the training for a good-wage job out of high school– to our outstanding magnet schools with specialized programs and unique choice schools–Dallas ISD has a best-fit high school for every student,” said Angie Gaylord, deputy chief of the Office of Transformation and Innovation. “We are excited to work with our eighth graders to identify which of our incredible high schools is perfect for them.”

The application window for applying to a Dallas ISD specialty school or program is open until Feb. 7. Visit www.dallasisd.org/choosedallasisd to learn more or apply.
