Although classrooms were quieter this summer, construction sites across Dallas ISD were not. From preparing temporary campuses and opening new schools to completing major renovations and advancing large-scale construction projects, Construction Services/Bond Office made significant progress in delivering learning environments that support student success for generations to come.
W.W. Samuell High School begins next chapter
A new chapter is underway for W.W. Samuell High School. This summer, the existing campus entered the demolition process, paving the way for a brand-new replacement campus funded through the 2026 Bond Program.
While construction gets underway, the former Piedmont G.L.O.B.A.L. Academy campus will be the temporary home for W.W. Samuell High School. Renovations to classrooms, technology, learning spaces, and campus amenities were completed over the summer to ensure students and staff have a welcoming, fully functional campus when they return for the Fall 2026 semester.
Piedmont students transition to Thelma Richardson Elementary
With Piedmont serving as the temporary home of W.W. Samuell High School, students who attended Piedmont will begin the new school year at Thelma Elizabeth Page Richardson Elementary School.
District teams worked throughout the summer to prepare classrooms and shared spaces, helping ensure a smooth transition for students, families, and team members.
Edwin J. Kiest Elementary opens its doors
Students and staff will soon walk into a brand-new Edwin J. Kiest Elementary School. The new campus features flexible learning environments, collaborative spaces, enhanced safety and security systems, modern instructional technology, and thoughtfully designed areas that encourage creativity, collaboration, and academic achievement.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Arts Academy nears completion
Construction on the new Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Arts Academy is reaching the finish line, with the project
expected to be completed this summer. The modern campus has been thoughtfully designed to support the school’s strong visual and performing arts programs while providing flexible learning environments that inspire creativity and innovation.
John Lewis Social Justice Academy at Oliver Wendell Holmes receives new turf field
Students returning to John Lewis Social Justice Academy at Oliver Wendell Holmes will be welcomed by a brand-new synthetic turf athletic field.
The completed project provides an upgraded outdoor space that supports athletics, physical education, and school activities while creating new opportunities for students to learn, compete, and build school pride.
Projects making significant progress
Construction continues to move forward across the district, with several campuses reaching important milestones over the summer.
- Seagoville High School continues to make progress on its classroom addition, expanding instructional space to support the school’s growing student population and future educational needs.
Judge Louis A. Bedford, Jr. Law Academy reached another exciting milestone as the original building is completely removed. Crews are currently completing landscaping and final exterior improvements, bringing the transformed campus one step closer to completion.- Urban Park STEAM Academy also saw major progress this summer. The original campus building was demolished, and construction of the school’s new main entrance was completed, creating a modern, welcoming front entry for students, staff, and visitors.

Nolan Estes Plaza continues to take shape as the future home of a vibrant district gathering space designed to support collaboration, professional learning, and community engagement.
Just a few miles away, Career Institute West is rising quickly and will expand Dallas ISD’s nationally recognized career and technical education programs with hands-on, industry-aligned learning spaces that prepare students for high-demand careers.
