Leadership from the Dallas ISD Food and Child Nutrition Services Department visited A. Maceo New Tech High School on Monday to present the cafeteria team with the Heart of Child Nutrition Award.

The award celebrates cafeteria staff that go above and beyond to provide an exceptional food experience to students.

The cafeteria staff at A. Maceo New Tech High School have been serving up nutritious meals to Dallas ISD students for decades, which is exemplified through their endless pursuit of excellence. Students commended the staff because they are always smiling, encouraging, positive, and incredibly hardworking. Students say that eating in this cafeteria feels like they are eating in a restaurant.

“The cafeteria staff at New Tech are phenomenal,” FCNS Area Lead Shondra Ewing said. “They take pride in  their work and truly enjoy what they do daily. They interact with the students with a smile on their faces.”

Tammye Brown, cafeteria supervisor at New Tech High School, motivates her staff to be the best they can be by telling them to “take the bull by the horns, be positive, and push yourself that extra mile with any task that you are doing.” This, she says, is how excellence is created.

“Tammye has been a ‘trail blazer’ with enrolling her school in the pilot Smoothie Breakfast Program,” said Lenea Pollett, FCNS Director of Procurement and Logistics. “Her support and knowledge with refining procedures has been instrumental to the program’s success.  It is because of her, more students are eating breakfast at New Tech!”

May 2–6 is School Nutrition Week.
