Spotlight continues shining on Sunset’s robotics students with special needs

The spotlight continues to shine on the Sunset High School Robo*Flash, and for good reason. As far as anyone can determine, it is the first robotics team comprised solely of students with special needs. The group was recognized as trailblazers by Dallas ISD Superintendent Michael Hinojosa and the Board of Trustees during the April 28 board meeting.

The high-spirited team captured the audience with their inspirational story and fun-loving camaraderie. The team was joined by the entire Robo*Bison Amistad team, faculty sponsors Friedrich Elliot and Pauline Tatum, Principal Luz Martinez, Executive Director Suzanne Villalpando, and student Ivonne Torres who came up with the original idea.

Team sponsors hope to develop the world’s first competitive league for teams like the Robo*Flash.
