National Suicide Prevention Month is recognized annually in September to raise awareness about suicide prevention and treatment as well as warning signs and how to get help when it is needed most.  Dallas ISD holds the safety and well-being of students and team members alike at the highest priority, and encourages everyone to learn the warning signs and get the support they—or those around them—need. Representing the Texas delegation, Judge Barefoot Sanders Law Magnet at Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Magnet Center sent two mock trial teams to this year’s YMCA National Judicial Competition (NJC) in Minneapolis. The teams clinched the title of co-champions and were recognized as the top two mock trial teams in the country. Sanders Law Magnet can now boast of being back-to-back national champions, having won the title in 2022 as well. The case they argued this year, State of Washington vs. Jace Crisplee, was loosely based on a real prosecution in Michigan, known as the Crumbley Case. During its Aug. 24 board meeting, the Dallas ISD Board of Trustees amended the existing Student Code of Conduct (SCoC) to align with the recently passed Texas House Bill 114 (HB114). Effective Sept. 1, 2023, any student caught with a vape device on campus, within 300-feet of school property, or at a school-sponsored event must be placed in DAEP.
