The school year might be over, but several Hillcrest High School students still have great memories of prom thanks to Salon Pompeo. Salon Pompeo provided six well-deserving students with free hair care (blow outs/updos for girls, boys clipped and styled), nails and make up services—along with a rental dress or tuxedo—for the school prom on May 13. The six students all excelled in areas of academic achievement, community service or outstanding perseverance.

Arleen Averill, a first-grade teacher at Dallas ISD’s Leonides Gonzalez Cigarroa Elementary School, was recently named a Dallas Mavericks Classroom Champions Teacher of the Year. Averill said she became a teacher after seeing the relationships and connections her mother made with students as a teacher. “I love coming to these little smiling faces every day,” Averill said of her students. “They are just so excited to be here and so excited to see you in the morning, you can’t help but feel the same for them. We come here all together as a family and spend our week together.” The…

The Adamson Scholarship Foundation awarded 14 graduating seniors from W.H. Adamson High School with $43,000 in scholarships at the school’s annual senior assembly on May 23. Adamson Scholarship Foundation Board Member Colleen Kelley handed out the awards that are for four years and range from $2,500 to $6,000 per year.  Students will receive the awards each year as long as they are enrolled full-time in higher education and meet grade requirements. Since its inception in 1947, the Adamson Scholarship Foundation has awarded $1.6 million in scholarships to more than 1,200 graduating seniors.
