About a week before the first day of school on Aug. 20, school nurses from across Dallas ISD gathered to learn ways to stop bleeding in emergency situations with tourniquets and gauze. The “Stop the Bleed” training was designed to better protect students and campus staff. When seconds count and a life is on the line, Dallas ISD nurses will be ready to respond. The nurses practiced applying tourniquets – a device that stops the flow of blood – on each other. They also practiced techniques for packing open wounds (using a simulator) with gauze. (Updated July 31): In preparation for the move, Student Record Services will close at 1 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 2 and will reopen 8 a.m., Monday, Aug. 6 at their new location. (Original Story) The Dallas ISD Students Record Services Department, which handles transcripts and diploma requests, is moving to a new building. Aside from school supplies, school uniforms are a primary need for many students going into the new school year. Families of students in preK–eighth grade in need of uniform assistance can contact their campus uniform coordinator for help in obtaining a uniform. Parents requesting uniform assistance must meet income eligibility guidelines and complete the Socioeconomic Information form to determine their eligibility. Both forms are provided by their campus uniform coordinator and returned to that coordinator once they are completed. Qualifying families receive one uniform for each approved student.
