To say the faculty and students of Dallas Environmental Science Academy love their cafeteria staff is a major understatement. Invited to nominate the cafeteria staff for the Heart of Child Nutrition Award sponsored by the Food and Child Nutrition Services Department, the school responded with a whopping 141 nominations — the most of any district school. Tuesday, FCNS Executive Director Dora Rivas presented the DESA cafeteria workers their award. When Stockard Middle School eighth-grader Jordan Lovelace dances, heads turn. He immediately captures the attention of everyone in the room. That’s exactly what happened when he auditioned for the School of American Ballet in January. His grace and technique not only won Lovelace one of 200 spots in the ballet company’s national summer intensive, but it also garnered him a scholarship to cover his tuition for the five-week program that begins in June.
