Dallas ISD is breaking new ground with its Distinguished Teacher Review, or DTR, process. Principals across the district have identified their most effective teachers based on a set of criteria, and nominated them to be honored for their effectiveness in educating students. José Munoz is principal at Cesar Chavez Learning Center. His school is among the list of campuses to have eligible teachers move forward within the review process. “I think one of the things is to be visual learners, be visual teachers, showing presentations,” said Muñoz. This week, approximately 1,400 Dallas ISD teachers will be invited to submit an application and undergo the Distinguished Teacher Review process. In order to be eligible, teachers must meet certain requirements and undergo a review of their leadership, lifelong learning, contributions to the profession and quality of instruction. Applications are due Jan. 22, 2015. Between January and May, applications will be reviewed and two- to three-person teams will conduct a 45-minute observation to assess the candidate’s quality of instruction. The Dallas Independent School District is casting its net in search of talented and effective teachers. A team from Dallas ISD’s Human Capital Management department in traveling to Puerto Rico in search of talent, including candidates with bilingual background. Interviews will be held from Dec. 4-7 at the Embassy Suites Hotel & Casino in Isla Verde. Only certified teachers will be interviewed for the following positions: Early education teacher Pre-school teacher Elementary school teacher: K-3 Elementary school teacher: 4th through 6th grades Elementary school teacher: kindergarten through 6th grades Candidates are asked to bring copies of their teaching certification and college transcripts.…
