The big picture: How the district plans to enhance facilities, programs (video)

The idea to tackle facilities needs within Dallas ISD is being launched, and it’s a plan like no other devised before. Chief of Transformation and Innovation, Mike Koprowski, says the strategy is a starting point and is written to meet specific programmatic needs to help students maximize their potential. The draft plan shows an investment in three areas that relate to the district’s strategic plan, known as Destination 2020.Those key areas are early childhood education, school choice and career tech education.

Classroom observations have become a common tool in identifying and evaluating effective teaching practices. The Teacher Excellence Initiative’s use of classroom observations for teachers in consideration for the Distinguished Teacher Review, is no different. “The difference between a classroom observation and a (Distinguished Teacher Review) observation is that in a classroom observation only one administrator is viewing the lesson activity for 45 minutes whereas in the DTR, there is a team of three that will observe the lesson activity and provide feedback,” said Cesar Chavez Principal Jose Munoz. Skyline High School hosted hundreds of students, teachers, administrators and campus coaches from across the Dallas Independent School District on Jan. 31, for STEM Day 2015. The event was a mix of fun demonstrations, learning opportunities and hands-on engagement designed to emphasize the importance of science, mathematics and engineering. Harry Stone and Rangel roll to the top in Pentathlon

Students at Harry Stone Montessori Academy took top honors as the best overall team at the district’s Seventh-Grade Academic Pentathlon competition held Feb. 7. Irma Lerma Rangel Young Women’s Leadership School placed first in the eighth-grade level competition. Seventh- and eighth-grade students from 16 district middle schools spent the day competing, individually, in five subjects: Literature, Math, Science, Social Science, and Fine Arts. The competition culminated with the Super Quiz where students from each school compete as a team. The individual and team scores are added together to determine each schools’ overall performance.
