As a follow up to internal air quality (IAQ) concerns at Lakewood Elementary that resulted in the evacuation of students and staff, the following overview is provided regarding the district’s response to the campus. Root Cause District staff determined that an owl blocked a vent stack on the roof from properly exhausting fumes from the boiler.  This caused fumes to back up into the boiler room and further into the building. The Skyline High School girls basketball team hit the court in a “business as usual” fashion this week in preparation for the program’s first appearance in the state tournament. What makes this opportunity so special is that after a 28-year career at the helm of the team’s basketball program, Coach Cassandra McCurdy will get her first shot at a state hoops title. On the surface, there is not much that connects Jamie Foxx, Dan Rather, and the Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. However, the Dallas ISD high school joined the company of those household names, as well as other legendary Texas’ artists, entertainers, and arts patrons, at last week’s Texas Medal of Arts Awards.
