For Skyline Lady Raiders hoops coach, 28th time’s the charm (video)
0The Skyline High School girls basketball team hit the court in a “business as usual” fashion this week in preparation for the program’s first appearance in the state tournament. What makes this opportunity so special is that after a 28-year career at the helm of the team’s basketball program, Coach Cassandra McCurdy will get her first shot at a state hoops title. 0With topics that ranged from ESL programs to bilingual teacher recruitment, José Octavio Tripp, the Mexican General Consul in Dallas, and Dallas ISD Superintendent Mike Miles discussed with community members how to best support district students. During the forum held at the Mexican Consulate in Dallas, 1210 River Bend Dr., Miles gave an update on Destination 2020, the district’s strategic plan to improve academic achievement. Booker T. Washington High School receives coveted arts award
0On the surface, there is not much that connects Jamie Foxx, Dan Rather, and the Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. However, the Dallas ISD high school joined the company of those household names, as well as other legendary Texas’ artists, entertainers, and arts patrons, at last week’s Texas Medal of Arts Awards. Volunteers help celebrate the world of Dr. Seuss (video)
0Fizz-ma-wizza-ma-dill—definitely not a word for Scrabble, but one that fits nicely in the world of Dr. Seuss. Students, teachers and volunteers from all walks of life are celebrated the wonderful, wacky world of Dr. Seuss in honor of his birthday. Ignacio Zaragoza Elementary students were treated to local celebrities who took time to read to them as part of the annual Read Across Dallas event. Volunteers fanned out across the district to take part in this fun event to promote literacy by reading to young students.
