The Dallas Independent School District Board of Trustees voted today to appoint Dr. Michael Hinojosa as superintendent of schools. The appointment followed a called meeting of the Trustees today at the Dallas ISD administration building. Hinojosa had served as interim superintendent since June. “As the board weighed its options, it became clear that the right candidate was right in front of us. U.S. Air Force Gen. Frank Gorenc, who is commander of the U.S. Air Forces in Europe and Africa, visited Emmett J. Conrad High School on Thursday, Oct. 1, to talk to students. Gorenc emphasized the importance of education and being eager and able to seize opportunities – something he said has helped him while serving in the military.

New Special Education chief returns to her Dallas ISD roots

The new head of Special Education, Tanya Browne, has come full circle in her career. The journalist-turned-educator started out in a Dallas ISD classroom in 1993. She later became a dean and associate principal before joining the Special Education department, first as supervisor of secondary programs and then director of curriculum and instruction. Following a stint as special ed chief in Austin ISD, she’s back home and looking forward to making a good program even better.
