(Updated: Jan. 27 12:13 p.m.) After assessing the smoke damage that occurred yesterday at Woodrow Wilson High School, district officials have decided to cancel classes Thursday, Jan. 28 and Friday, Jan. 29. Trustees honored for service during School Board Recognition Month
0While members of the Dallas ISD Board of Trustees are accustomed to recognizing the special achievements of students and staff, at January’s regular board meeting the spotlight was on them. Each trustee was recognized for the time and effort they perform for students at the Jan. 28 meeting as part of School Board Recognition Month. A student from each trustee district created artwork for their respective board members. Three students were on hand to help present their creations. Board approves student achievement goals to ‘drive the district forward’
0Trustees approved the adoption of six new student achievement goals that Superintendent Michael Hinojosa says will be the catalyst that drives the district forward. Trustees and Hinojosa developed the proposed achievement goals after reviewing district results and holding multiple workshops. Hinojosa said most of the proposed goals have key performance indicators. The goals are: Goal 1: All students will exhibit Satisfactory or above performance on State assessments. Students below Satisfactory performance will demonstrate more than one year of academic growth; Goal 2: Dallas ISD schools will be the primary choice for families in the district; Goal 3: The achievement gap…
Trustees approve mandatory recess at all elementary schools
0All elementary schools are now required to offer daily recess for students in preK–fifth grade following a policy change approved by trustees last week. The policy change requires elementary schools for the rest of the school year to offer at least 20 minutes of daily recess for all students. Starting next school year, elementary schools will be required to offer at least 30 minutes of daily recess. Trustee Dan Micciche, who proposed the policy change, said during a December board briefing that research shows the positive benefits of recess for young students.
