Decision Day celebrates college-bound seniors
0The more than 7,680 seniors that have submitted at least one application to a two- or four-year postsecondary institution were recognized and honored on Friday as part of GenTX Decision Day. Seniors received an I Decided! Ninety-one district seniors win State Fair of Texas scholarships
0Continuing a 24-year tradition, the State Fair of Texas recently awarded college scholarships to 91 seniors from five district high schools located near Fair Park. The scholarships were presented at an April 29 luncheon to 21 students from Irma Rangel Young Women’s Leadership School, 12 students from James Madison High School, 20 students from Lincoln High School and 21 students from Woodrow Wilson High School. The students each received $6,000 scholarships in recognition of their academic performance and class ranking. The scholarships are named for former State Fair of Texas chairman Pete Schenkel. Dallas ISD Board of Trustees election results
0Jaime Resendez (Trustee District 4), Lew Blackburn (Trustee District 5), and Audrey Pinkerton (Trustee District 7) won their races on Saturday, May 7 for seats on the Dallas ISD Board of Trustees. In District 2, Dustin Marshall and Mita Havlick will head to a runoff election on June 18 to determine who fills the trustee seat as neither received the majority of votes. Blackburn has served on the Board of Trustees since 2001. Resendez, an attorney, and Pinkerton, the owner of a commercial construction firm, will be new to the board. What does a trustee do?
