National Red Ribbon Week raises awareness of dangers of drug use
0You Only Live Once – #YOLO – is the theme behind this year’s National Red Ribbon Week, October 23-31. The initiative was started by the National Family Partnership (NFP, formerly the National Federation of Parents for Drug Free Youth) in 1986 to give people and communities a visible way to take a stand against illegal drugs. Workshop at Conrad flips the script on dialogue about healthy relationships
0The script got flipped at Conrad High School by having students teach their teachers about healthy relationships, dating abuse and domestic violence. Loveisrespect, a project of the National Domestic Violence Hotline, has created toolkits designed to help schools educate Texas students about healthy relationships and recognizing the signs of abuse. 0The Hillcrest High School Alumni Association recently honored its newest class of distinguished alumni, which includes a tenured professor, accomplished attorneys, a published author, and community leaders. The alumni association recognized these distinguished Hillcrest grads at the third annual Platinum Panther Celebration on Oct. 19. Essilor Vision Foundation helps create bright future for students (video)
0Thanks to the Dallas-based Essilor and Essilor Vision Foundation, hundreds of Dallas ISD students had their vision examined by local optometrists and eye care professionals free of charge. The students also received free glasses. All of the students were pre-screened by school nurses, who determined they may need glasses. Essilor hosted the event during World Sight Day, a global happening that focuses attention on blindness and vision impairment. World Sight Day occurs the second Thursday of October.
