Dallas ISD announces launch of 10 new collegiate academies next school year
0After changing the game this school year by launching seven new collegiate academies and a P-TECH, Dallas ISD announced the launch of 10 new district collegiate academies for the 2017–2018 school year. Applications will be accepted starting next month to attend one of the new collegiate academies. New CityLab High School to take learning beyond the classroom
0In August 2017, CityLab High School will be the newest Dallas ISD Transformation School to open its doors for 100 new freshman students. CityLab will utilize a school-wide urban planning, architecture, and community development framework, making its downtown location (912 S. Ervay Street) that was recently approved by the Board of Trustees an ideal site for its inventive academic offerings. Led by architect and veteran Skyline High School teacher Peter Goldstein and local architect Lorena Toffer, the school will provide a transformative educational experience where learning extends beyond the classroom walls into the streets where students live, work, and play.…
District honors top educators at Teacher of the Year celebration
0Three out of 11 finalists were named the 2016 Teachers of the Year for the Dallas Independent School District (Dallas ISD). The recipients of the award were announced Nov. 11 during a districtwide celebration. Carol Shelton at Jerry Junkins Elementary School received the award for elementary; Tony Benedetto from H. Grady Spruce High School won for secondary; and Sandra Urton at SOLAR Preparatory School for Girls at James B. Bonham received the magnet/choice schools award. 0The Dallas Independent School District salutes the more than 400 district employees who are veterans of U.S. military service. Assigned to district schools and departments in dozens of capacities, these heroes and heroines bring to their positions in Dallas ISD the same devotion to service and duty they gave to our country. In his Veterans Day message, Superintendent Michael Hinojosa calls on district students and staff to honor these deserving Americans for their service to our nation and to the students of Dallas ISD.
