Fourteen district schools receive high-performing designation

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) recently released a list of Title I schools designated as high-performing, which includes 14 in Dallas ISD. A Title I school is one with a high percentage of children from low-income families. Such campuses receive federal funding to help ensure that all children, regardless of family income, meet state academic standards. The high-performance schools on the list have earned distinctions based on student reading and math performance. For high schools on the list, a high graduation rate is also considered. The Dallas Independent School District (Dallas ISD) will host a districtwide showcase of school offerings with representatives from all 228 district schools, at the Discover Dallas ISD Fair from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3. This first-ever event will highlight academic choices from prekindergarten, single-gender and magnet schools to collegiate academies, STEM and STEAM schools and neighborhood schools that offer students a close-knit family-like environment with rigorous academic instruction. Capital One and 724 Dallas ISD NAF students have set a new GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ for the largest programming lesson! At a “Monster Coding Jam” session, these scary smart ninth-graders kicked off Techweek Dallas by learning the basics of app creation and developing their very own “monster mash” gaming app. The previous record was held by a programming class of 712 participants, organized by the Lithuanian MEP Antanas Guoga, on Sept. 9, 2016, in Vilnius, Lithuania. High school girls get inside look into commercial real estate careers

The Commercial Real Estate Women network, or CREW, hosted 64 Dallas ISD students in a mock development competition called CREW Careers. The competition is designed to provide high school girls an introduction into commercial real estate and the various job functions that support the industry. Prior to the competition, students went on a walking tour of the CityLine development in Richardson. At the competition, teams were assigned a property type and worked with CREW volunteers to develop a plan that would fit in with the CityLine Development. Watch the above video to learn more.
