Dallas ISD and Big Thought receive $400,000 planning grant to help students develop social and emotional skills
0The Wallace Foundation has awarded Dallas ISD and out-of-school-time partner Big Thought with a joint planning grant of $400,000 to develop students’ social and emotional intelligence skills that link to success in school, career and life. Meanwhile, Dallas ISD announced it has identified the 12 schools that will serve as Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) pilot campuses. Trustees in 2016 adopted a policy requiring all Dallas ISD schools to implement SEL districtwide by 2025. Students can still get breakfast and lunch at 11 schools over winter break
0Even though class won’t be in session, select Dallas ISD campuses will still offer a morning snack and lunch for Dallas ISD students. The meals are free to anyone under the age of 18. Breakfast will be served from 8–9 a.m. and lunch will be served from 11 a.m.–12 p.m. The meals will be served Dec. 28–30 and Jan. 3–6. Below is the lcoations for the winter break meal program. Magnet schools accepting applications for 2017-2018 school year
0Dallas ISD is home to some of the nation’s top magnet schools. Students interested in attending one of these schools for the 2017-2018 school year can submit applications through January 31. There are programs for every age level covering a variety of interests. The magnet program includes vanguards and Montessori for elementary students, academies for middle school students and magnets for high school students. For a complete list of schools and programs, visit the magnet school website. The requirements to attend magnet programs vary by school. Applications can be found online. The deadline to apply is January 31.
Donation brings more than $100,000 in new technology to schools in Roosevelt feeder pattern
0Ruel Hamilton, CEO and founder of AmeriSouth Realty, has donated more than $100,000 to support campuses in the Roosevelt High School feeder pattern. The donation will help upgrade technology at the schools. On Tuesday, Dec. 13, Roosevelt High School hosted an event to demonstrate some of the new technology and to thank Hamilton for his generous donation. Superintendent Michael Hinojosa and Trustee Lew Blackburn were among those in attendance.
