Essilor Vision Foundation helps create bright future for students (video)
0Thanks to the Dallas-based Essilor and Essilor Vision Foundation, hundreds of Dallas ISD students had their vision examined by local optometrists and eye care professionals free of charge. The students also received free glasses. All of the students were pre-screened by school nurses, who determined they may need glasses. Essilor hosted the event during World Sight Day, a global happening that focuses attention on blindness and vision impairment. World Sight Day occurs the second Thursday of October. Elrod’s donates $21,107 to fund field trips for students
0Representatives from Elrod’s Cost Plus Supermarket, which has multiple locations in the DFW area, presented a check for $21,107 to Dallas ISD’s Field Trip Fund on Wednesday. Elrod’s representatives presented the check at Gilbert Cuellar Sr. Elementary’s “Muffins with Moms” event. Elrod’s started the Field Trip Fund so schools could send more students on educational field trips to locations such as the arboretum and zoo. The Field Trip Fund finances transportation to and from the field trip destinations. Career certifications skyrocket by 3,500 percent since 2010
0The number of career certifications received by Dallas ISD students has increased by more than 3,500 percent since 2009–2010, and students like Damian, a senior at W.H. Adamson High School, are benefiting. Damian is in Adamson High School’s automotive technology program and plans to become a Porsche Master Technician. Nick Cannon launches student entrepreneur competition at Conrad High School
0The Nick Cannon Foundation, in collaboration with Dallas ISD’s Career and Technical Education Program and JPMorgan Chase and Co., have announced the launch of a new competition for Dallas youth called “America’s Teen Mogul (ATM) Summit and Student Business Plan Competition.” Cannon announced the launch of the competition on Monday, Oct. 10, at Conrad High School.
