0After attending the Dallas ISD daylong orientation for new substitute teachers, Cynthia McMillian, who has worked as a substitute all year at W.T. White High School, said she was ready to succeed in the classroom. Dallas ISD revamped its substitute teacher orientation this year to notably positive results. The orientation partners with different Dallas ISD departments so incoming substitute teachers are informed on everything from de-escalation techniques to best teaching practices. Dallas ISD announces new leadership appointments
0The Dallas Independent School District (Dallas ISD) announced the appointment of several executives to district leadership positions. Former Dallas ISD educator Ivonne Durant has been named the district’s new chief academic officer. Durant previously served in Dallas ISD as a principal, executive director, area superintendent and chief academic officer. Most recently, she served as deputy of Academics and School Leadership in El Paso ISD where she provided guidance in the development of structure and procedures for academic and school leadership departments. Ceremony celebrates 36 students from Samuell ECHS graduating with an associate degree
0A pinning celebration recognized the 36 students in the Samuell Early College High School (ECHS) program who are graduating high school with an associate degree. At the emotional event, the 36 students thanked the people who helped them succeed in the rigorous program. This is the second Samuell ECHS class to graduate with their associate degree: 24 students in the Class of 2016 graduated with their associate degree. Dallas ISD students run away with 28 medals at State Track and Field Championships
0Dallas ISD competed in the 2017 UIL State Track and Field Championships and ran away with 28 medals. The Carter High School Girls Track and Field team is the 2017 4A State Champions, and the school’s Boys Track and Field team is the 2017 4A State Runner-Up. The district overall had 34 student-athletes compete in 20 events. Sha’Carri Richardson of Carter High School set the record last year for the 100-meter dash, and then broke that record this year.
