Trustees recognize singers, speaker and special campus award at meeting
0The Dallas ISD Board of Trustees recognized students and staff for special achievements at its regular meeting on Thursday, Feb. 22, 2018. • Timothy Johnson, a senior at Skyline High School, was awarded 1st Chair – Tenor 1 – in the Texas All-State Mixed Choir, the which is the highest achievement a student in music can be awarded in the State of Texas. From the 14,000 students who started the audition process in September, he was among the 224 voices selected to the Texas All-State Mixed Choir. All female students invited to pick out a free prom dress and accessories
0St. Andrew United Methodist Church invites all girl students to the Prom Closet to pick out and take home, for free, a prom dress and accessories. The Prom Closet is open: Feb. 27–28 and March 1 from 4–8 p.m. March 3 from 9 a.m.–noon Students can pick out dresses sized 0 to 28, many of which have never been worn. The only requirement is that the girls must be present to select their dresses/accessories. All schools will soon accept credit card payments for school-related expenses
0Dallas ISD is bringing a program districtwide that will allow all schools to accept credit cards, debit cards or “e-checks” online or at the campus to pay for everything from field trips to campus related fees to donations to the schools. Currently, 90-percent of secondary schools now participate in RevTrak, which means parents can pay for school-related expenses online and not have to send a check or cash to school with their kid. Beginner’s Guide to applying for magnet schools still accepting applications
0Five Dallas ISD magnet schools have extended their application deadlines through Feb. 28. These include the new Two-Way Dual Language Talented and Gifted Academy and Sudie L. Williams Talented and Gifted, both set to open in August 2018. Additionally, J.P. Starks, Mark Twain and Sidney Lanier are expanding their magnet programs to grades 4-8. All five schools are accepting applications for incoming fourth- through sixth-graders. This is a great opportunity for students currently in grades 3–5 to attend a phenomenal school in Dallas ISD.
