Two new early college high schools to open next school year
0Dallas ISD and the Dallas County Community College District (DCCCD) are planning to open early college high schools inside Skyline High School and North Lake College next school year. District officials briefed trustees in September about the growth and future plans of the district’s Early College High School (ECHS) and Pathways to Technology Early College High School (P-TECH) programs. Dallas ISD and the DCCCD currently operate 23 ECHS/P-TECH programs where students can get up to 60 hours of college credit—or an associate degree—at no cost to them while still in high school. 0Dallas ISD celebrates the rich culture and important contributions of Hispanic Americans during National Hispanic Heritage Month, which is Sept. 15-Oct. 15 each year. Special events and educational lessons help bring the history to life for students. The time period is an important one for several Hispanic countries. On Sept. 15, the countries of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua celebrate becoming independent nations. The next day, Sept. 16, is celebrated as Independence Day in Mexico. Ribbon-Cutting celebrates new Anne Frank Early Childhood Center
0Parents, community members, school staff and students recently marked the opening of the new Anne Frank Early Childhood Center with a ribbon-cutting. The celebration is the first of several planned to mark the growth of Dallas ISD’s school choice and early learning programs. Board of Trustees President Edwin Flores thanked the North Dallas community for its strong support for district schools, which he said has contributed to improving academic achievement. Report: Dallas ISD pre-K gives students an academic boost
0Data continues to show that students who attend Dallas ISD pre-K go on to academically outperform eligible students who do not attend Dallas ISD pre-K. Derek Little, assistant superintendent of Early Learning, briefed trustees on Sept. 13 about how pre-K is setting up students for lifelong success. Little showed trustees the 2017-18 assessment data comparing students who attend Dallas ISD pre-K with eligible students who do not attend Dallas ISD pre-K.
