Dallas ISD celebrates Black History Month
0Is your campus hosting special speakers, organizing oratorical competitions, or planning other special activities in observance of Black History Month 2019? In keeping with Dallas ISD tradition, schools are invited to submit their activities to Communications to share with the community. The Association for the Study of African-American Life and History has established this year’s theme as Black Migrations, focusing on the movement of people of African descent to new destinations and new social realities. State of the District showcases recent successes, future plans in Dallas ISD
0In front of a packed room, the inaugural Dallas ISD State of the District showcased the outstanding gains the district has made over the past several years. From a drastic decrease in low-performing schools, growing pre-K program, focus on racial equity and rapid rise of choice schools, Superintendent Michael Hinojosa detailed some of the district’s many recent noteworthy accomplishments. Lowe kindergarten teacher meets with U.S. Education Secretary
0Marisol Garcia-Undiano, a kindergarten teacher for two years at Jack Lowe Sr. Elementary School, was recently invited to share her experiences with U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos. Garcia-Undiano participated in a roundtable discussion on Jan. 17 focusing on teacher recruitment, teacher preparation, retention and salary. She was a student of Texas Tech University’s TechTeach program, which was also part of the discussion. Parents invited to provide feedback at this week’s transportation meetings
0In order to get input and keep parents updated on transportation-related items, the district is hosting monthly meetings. All meetings will be held 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the Turney W. Leonard Governance and Training Center at 5151 Samuell Blvd. In order to facilitate dialogue and address any concerns from Service Centers, parents are asked to attend the meetings based on the routes assigned to their children.
