Sunset launches grow-our-own police pathway
0Sunset High School is launching a new Criminal Justice Academy in partnership with the Dallas Police Department (DPD). Upon successful completion of the program, Sunset Law Academy graduates will meet all the educational qualifications to apply for a police officer position in DPD. Sunset becomes the latest Dallas ISD school to formalize a law program towards an associate degree with law enforcement training. David W. Carter and Bryan Adams high schools already collaborate with DPD to produce police officers who can serve Dallas communities. With Sunset adding the law academy, this educational opportunity will expand to North Oak Cliff. …
Dallas ISD names the Teachers of the Year
0Two of 11 finalists have been named Dallas ISD 2019-2020 Teachers of the Year! Eric Hale from David G. Burnet Elementary School is the Elementary Teacher of the Year and Katie Benningfield from the School for the Talented and Gifted in Pleasant Grove is the Secondary Teacher of the Year. The winners were announced at a special reception on Jan. 22 where they were each presented with $5,000 checks from H-E-B/Central Market. 0As Superintendent Michael Hinojosa announced that a significant number of Dallas ISD seniors are expected to graduate this year with an associate degree, a room full of industry partners and campus leaders burst into applause.
