Federal guidelines now require parents to provide documentation for students not present for food distribution
0To meet federal guidelines, Dallas ISD is asking parents to provide documentation of school enrollment when picking up meals at district sites without their children. Moving forward, when children ages 0–18 are not with parents at the meal distribution sites, parents should bring one of the following to collect student meals: Student ID Card Individual student report cards Official Letter/email from school listing children enrolled Attendance record from parent portal of school website Birth certificate Dallas ISD has emailed a letter to parents with email addresses on file to assist with this request. Dallas ISD Special Education Department offers resources and activities for parents and students during COVID-19 closures
0While this is an unprecedented time for Dallas ISD due to the COVID-19 closures, the Dallas ISD Special Education Department wants to ensure families remain healthy and receive the appropriate resources they need during this crisis. Teachers have been very creative in using video platforms—such as Zoom—to work with students with special education needs, as well as online instruction programs such as Unique Learning System (ULS) and Vizzle. Superintendent provides update on at-home learning
0Superintendent Michael Hinojosa on April 6 updated local media on Dallas ISD’s response during the COVID-19 crisis. While a decision to close schools for the remainder of the year has not been made, Hinojosa is doubtful students will be able to return. However, he anticipates making an announcement on closures in the following weeks. Most encouraging to share is of the near 154,000 students in Dallas ISD, more than 98 percent of enrolled students have connected with their teachers via phone, email or virtually.
