Today, Superintendent Michael Hinojosa joins the Council of the Great City Schools (CGCS), the nation’s primary coalition of large urban public-school districts, urging Congress to approve new funding for local school systems in the next coronavirus supplemental appropriations bill. In a letter to Capitol Hill, the CGCS calls on an additional federal allocation of $175 billion in Educational Stabilization Funds to be distributed to the local level through the Title I formula. To allow for planned and necessary A/C repairs at Ann Richards STEAM Academy and Francisco Medrano Middle School, those schools as of this week will no longer offer emergency meal service. Instead, Jose “Joe” May Elementary School and Skyline High School will start offering emergency meal service as replacement campuses Meanwhile, due to previously planned construction, Justin F. Kimball High School as of this week will no longer offer bulk grab-and-go meals. T.W. Browne Middle School will now serve both campuses. Dallas ISD schools are closed for remainder of school year, but learning continues at home

Dallas ISD schools will be closed for the remainder of the school year. Gov. Greg Abbott announced on April 17 that public and private schools will remain closed for the rest of the school year to help combat the spread of COVID-19. Abbott said he made the decision based on advice of doctors and health officials. While school buildings are closed, students’ education continues through at-home learning. Dallas ISD now offers at-home learning lessons in seven different languages. Go here to learn more about at-home learning.
