Senior living facility receives messages of hope from hundreds of elementary students
0Hundreds of Dallas ISD elementary school students created motivational artwork for the residents of a local senior living facility. The Edgemere facility received more than 210 letters, art projects and videos with uplifting messages. “We simply asked that the teachers have students create artwork, write letters, make videos, anything they wished to make and send some caring spirit on to the facility residents,” said Erinn D. Wilcots, manager of Dallas ISD’s Advanced Academic Services. “We left the project open to the students’ imagination so they could come up with what they thought would be best to send to the residents.”…
Statement on Dallas ISD decision to hold virtual graduation ceremonies
0Dallas ISD’s decision to honor our 2020 graduating seniors with virtual rather than in-person commencement ceremonies is based on one overriding concern: the safety of our students, their families and district staff. District leaders made this decision after much discussion and in-depth consultation with trustees, government officials and the area medical community. The three CI campuses are scheduled to open at the beginning of the upcoming school…
Dallas ISD to launch Reading Academies to increase number of students reading at grade level
0Dallas ISD is gearing up for the district’s Reading Academies, launching this fall. The academies are the district’s response to last year’s passage of Texas House Bill 3, which requires all kindergarten through third-grade teachers and elementary principals to complete a 10-day reading academy before the end of the 2022-2023 school year. For Dallas ISD, this is an opportunity to help meet the Board of Trustee’s goal of having at least 60 percent of our students reading at grade level in third grade by 2025. By developing more skilled and effective educators, the district will positively impact student literacy achievement. “The HB3…
