Dallas ISD Board of Trustees approves changes to school year calendar
0During the July 23 called board meeting, the Dallas Independent School District’s Board of Trustees approved several changes to the 2020-21 school year calendar. The approved changes to the calendar, which you can see here, are: The first day of school moves from Aug. 17 to Sept. 8. The last day of school moves from May 27, 2021, to June 18, 2021 Previously planned holidays in October are removed due to the cancellation of the State Fair. Superintendent Hinojosa testifies before Congressional committee on importance of increasing access to high-speed internet for families
0While addressing the House Committee on Education and Labor today, Superintendent Michael Hinojosa urged federal lawmakers to pass legislation that provides funding to increase access to high-speed internet service for families. Several bills up for consideration in Congress would help increase access to high-speed internet access, which Hinojosa said is necessary not only for students to learn at home, but also for families to access telemedicine and apply for jobs. Reilly Elementary teacher honored with statewide recognition
0Maria-Elena Pacheco, a kindergarten teacher at Martha Turner Reilly Elementary earned the Elementary Teacher of the Year award by the Texas PTA. Texas PTA is one the largest child advocacy organizations in the state. The organization grants the 2020 Outstanding Educator of the Year Award to five outstanding educators statewide. For Pacheco, it was an honor to get nominated. She has worked at Reilly Elementary for the last 13 years and with Dallas ISD since 1995.
