Dallas ISD Transportation employees being hailed as heroes during flood

During Monday’s unexpected flooding, Dallas ISD school bus driver Simone Edmond and bus monitor Tekendria Valentine had to think quickly to rescue two siblings from rushing water.  After they finished their usual route, dispatch called on the duo to assist with picking up another group of children who needed transportation. When they arrived, they found that the students had gone back home, so Edmond headed back to the bus lot. Oak Cliff school renamed after longtime Dallas ISD educator

Last Saturday, Dallas ISD hosted a ceremony to change the name of the school formerly known as Sarah Zumwalt Middle School to Dr. Frederick D. Todd, Sr. Middle School. Dr. Todd was a longtime educator who served in different positions across his 46 years of career – including a period as principal of the school that now bears his name. Dr. Todd’s sons and family members joined Superintendent Stephanie Elizalde and Principal Bobby Nevels at the renaming ceremony to honor his legacy.

Franklin D. Roosevelt High School unveils state-of-the-art facility

Guests including Trustee Maxie Johnson, Superintendent Stephanie Elizalde, former Superintendent Michael Hinojosa, alumni, families and students helped Dallas ISD celebrate the newly renovated Franklin D. Roosevelt High School Saturday, Aug. 13. The dedication ceremony took place inside of the state-of-the-art Melvin Traylor Auditorium. Thanks to voters who passed the 2015 Bond, the campus underwent a $64 million dollar renovation and reconstruction. See highlights of the event in the photo slideshow and video.

Over 180 campuses open doors for last first day of school
